Official Inauguration of the Multicore Fiber Optic Testbed to take place on november 3 at Iscte
The LUMIRing project will celebrate a key milestone with the official inauguration of the Lisbon Underground Multicore Fiber Ring testbed, installed along the Yellow Line of the Lisbon Metro. The event will take place on November 3, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., in Auditorium A306 (Floor 3, Building 4) at Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon.
The ceremony will be hosted by the Rector of Iscte, Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues, and will feature keynote addresses from two members of the Portuguese Government:
- Manuel Castro Almeida, Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion
- Miguel Pinto Luz, Minister of Infrastructure and Housing
This event marks the formal launch of a one-of-a-kind infrastructure in Europe, enabling real-world testing of innovative multicore fiber optic solutions, particularly in the harsh underground environment of an operational metro system.
