The kick-off meeting
The LUMIRing project officially began on 1 July 2025 with a kick-off meeting held at the headquarters of Metropolitano de Lisboa (ML) in Carnide.

The event marked the formal launch of the initiative and brought together key stakeholders committed to making this groundbreaking multicore fiber (MCF) infrastructure a reality.
Strong institutional participation
The meeting was attended by representatives from all major partner institutions:
- Metropolitano de Lisboa
– The person responsible for collaboration with LUMIRing
– The Head of the Maintenance Department
– The representative in charge of monitoring the installation work - ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa
– The Vice-Rector for Research and Technological Modernisation
– The LUMIRing Project Coordinator - Telcabo

– The Project Manager
A shared commitment to innovation and timeliness
All parties present reaffirmed their full commitment to the project’s initially defined timeline, underlining the importance of coordinated effort and cross-institutional collaboration to achieve LUMIRing’s ambitious goals.
The meeting also served as an opportunity to align expectations and confirm next steps in the implementation of the 26 km multicore fiber ring, to be installed along the Lisbon Metro’s Yellow Line.
With the kickoff meeting concluded, LUMIRing is now fully underway—bringing together research, infrastructure, and industry to create one of the most advanced multicore fiber testbeds ever deployed in Europe.
