LUMIRing recognized at OFC 2026 as a global reference in multicore fiber technology
The LUMIRing test bed has been presented to the international scientific community at OFC 2026 (Optical Fiber Communication Conference), held in Los Angeles, USA.
This milestone highlights the work developed in Portugal, particularly the infrastructure deployed in the city of Lisbon.
During the panel discussion “Is the Ecosystem Ready for Multicore Fibers?”, speakers from Sumitomo and Google referred to the LUMIRing test bed as the “world’s largest multicore fiber (MCF) test bed”, emphasizing it as a clear example of the maturity already achieved by this technology.
This recognition reinforces LUMIRing’s role as a real-world experimentation and validation platform, actively contributing to the advancement of optical communications and the adoption of multicore fiber solutions.
With this distinction, LUMIRing strengthens its position as a global reference infrastructure, while also placing Lisbon at the forefront of next-generation optical network innovation.
